ISM Regional Leadership Training Conference
Las Vegas, NV - July 9-10, 2004

Several of your NAPM-OC Board Members, Officers, and Committee Chairs recently attended the ISM Regional Leadership Training Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 9th and 10th. We are pleased to report that NAPM-OC was well represented and recognized at the Conference.

Twelve attendees participated in the conference, including three as speakers. The conference is organized and sponsored by ISM national to help Affiliate Officers, Committee and Board members receive training and other benefits to help enable them to execute their job duties in the affiliate effectively. The Conference is also a terrific networking opportunity as like personnel come from all over the country to participate.

NAPM-OC Attendees included Chrys Varnes, C.P.M., George Nagy, C.P.M., Myriam Roberts, Merle Roberts,C.P.M., El Roy Codding Jr., CPIM, Gloria Torres, Laura DeLance, C.P.M., Bill Zablan, Eugene Eckert, David Chance, CPIM, Mark Bird, and Joe Polance, C.P.M.

Speakers included Chrys Varnes, C.P.M., who spoke on several topics including Affiliate President, Vice-President, and Board of Directors: The Necessities; Managing Your Affiliate Database; and, Setting a Different Bar- Parts I and II. Chrys was also on the Leadership Conference Committee and deserves Kudos for some of the success of the entire event. She really worked hard on it. Merle Roberts, C.P.M., gave dynamic presentations in Strategic Planning and Develop/Revitalize Your Affiliate Strategic Plan. Merle kept attendees alert and on their toes with his energetic presentation style, humor, and interactivity. George Nagy, C.P.M., gave a session on Getting Feedback From Your Stakeholders: Surveys and Other Tools. George was responsible for our own NAPM-OC survey last year which we are utilizing to better serve you.

Communications Chairman David Chance, CPIM made an immediate impact on the entire conference by snapping a ton of great digital pictures, and then immediately putting them on display from his laptop computer as the entire conferees walked in to the banquet room for lunch! David identified himself as a Communications Committee member for NAPM Orange County, posted a photo album on the Internet and offered free originals. Needless to say, many of them asked for his card.

The team also enjoyed a team building dinner on Friday July 8th, and reported feedback at the August Board of Directors meeting. Many of us took advantage of the networking opportunities and the availability of ISM key personnel, and the entire mood of the conference was upbeat, co-operative, and humorous.

Co-sponsored by ISM, they reimbursed part of our costs for some attendees. Those of us who were fortunate enough to go, are grateful and enthusiastic for the opportunity and hope to apply what we learned.
