September's Interview
George Nagy, C.P.M.

George Nagy, C.P.M., a 12-year member of NAPM, both Silicon Valley and Orange County, was born overseas and lived abroad for 6 years. He was raised in New York where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Marketing at Pace University. He has three grown children, two boys, one girl and resides with his family in Irvine.

George strongly believes in continuously enhancing his skills by taking purchasing related classes, and he has done so since 1970. He has proven that once you define what you need, listen carefully and relay that information to a supplier, the needs of the buyer can be met efficiently.

George has served 3 years as the House Chair for NAPM and as Vice President during 2001-2002. He believes that NAPM benefits the community and unites professionals with various experiences to discuss issues collectively. These shared experiences are very valuable tools for each person’s future career goals.

One of George’s new goals for all NAPM-OC members is to help everyone become better communicators. He believes that educational information presented within a professional environment is an excellent setting for learning.

Within George’s 35 years in the purchasing field, he has acquired a unique background, as follows:

QSC Audio Products, Inc. - 8 years , Senior Buyer/Planner in a state of the art manufacturing environment. George deals with professional audio equipment, amplifiers and speakers for commercial use in all commercial and professional applications, such as movie and stage theaters, arenas and even rock concerts. George’s main responsibility is purchasing components such as connectors, magnetics, and transistors from both domestic and offshore sources. By taking industry related classes, George has enhanced his position at QSC.

Levelor Corporation, Purchasing Manager for 4 years.

Exxon Corporation - Combined 21 years, Forms Control Specialist. He dealt with MRO buying using buy cards as one of his main responsibilities.

Exxon International Corporation, Buyer, he worked as a Senior Buyer/Planner specializing in the worldwide maintenance and replenishment of Exxon’s international tanker fleet, purchasing responsibilities included maintaining a worldwide spare parts inventory.

Along with George’s professional resume, he attributes his success to knowing that "knowledge is power." He is very supportive of all educational offerings available through local colleges. He always puts his whole heart into the mechanics of the purchasing profession and believes that setting goals and objectives are the key to success.
