"If you work for it, it will come"

Are You Being Recognized?

We’ve all heard the expressions, “You have to toot your own horn.” “The squeaky wheel get the grease.” and similar sayings. Know what? They’re true. To a degree. Of course it’s nice to be recognized for your efforts simply by their results. But, sometimes that manifestation must be initiated as opposed to being discovered.

Does your company know what you do for them? What are you doing for them? Do you know?

Chances are, they don’t. Somebody needs to tell them. Somebody like you.

Keeping your management informed is probably the best method you have to demonstrate your department’s, your associate’s and your own results and achievements. Not to mention the way to be included in company initiatives, become the “go to” entity for supply issues, and be considered for promotion, raises and additional responsibility. And, in these times of downsizing and outsourcing, it’s imperative you communicate the value your department provides to your company.

Are you proactively keeping your boss informed on a regular basis? Do you have success stories to report? Cost reduction efforts? Change initiatives? Spend data? You may not realize it, but your management is starved for this information. They want to know. Give it to them.

Make a commitment to report your activities to your management on a monthly basis. Some criteria you can include is monthly spend data, cost reduction achievement, purchasing and supply initiatives, supplier performance results, user compliance, cross-functional activity, customer service, and many others.

Start this initiative this month and watch the results. And drop us a line telling us about them.

I’m pleased this month to report that our annual Scholarship Golf Tournament was a huge success.

We shattered records for players and were able to add funds to our C.P.M. Exam Reimbursement Program. Please check the website soon for details on this program. And a written policy will soon be posted on the site as well. Or you can ask Merle Roberts, C.P.M. any questions you may have.

Have a good month! Carpe Diem.
