NAPM-OC 3rd Annual Golf Tournament
is a Record Success!

By Joe Polance, C.P.M.
Golf Tournament Chair and NAPM-OC President

Our 3rd Annual Joint NAPM-Orange County, Inland Empire and CAPPO-Inland Empire Golf Tournament was a hole in one! This year’s event was held Friday, September 17th, at the LA Royal Vista Golf Course in Walnut.

A record 67 golfers participated, 53 from NAPM-Orange County (a record for us too!) and enjoyed a terrific day of fun, sun, golf, contests, competition, food, and a ton of raffle prizes.

The grand prize of a Suzuki LT-50 ATV was won by golfer, Nora Aplin, of Double Eagle, three-time participants in our tourney. Nora and 23 other golfers qualified for this great prize put up by American Suzuki Motorcycle Division by hitting a shot on to the green at one of two different holes. Then at the awards banquet that night, emcee Bill Zablan lined up all 24 finalists behind the podium, put all their names in a fishbowl, and with the help of all-purpose tournament volunteer Aaron Provencio, pulled out names one by one thereby eliminating qualifiers until finally Nora’s name was the only one left.

Team Packaging Birdies from Orange County Container, reclaimed their championship from 2002 by scorching the course, and the competition, with a sizzling team score of 57. The Packaging Birdies Team consisted of Bart Ramalot, Dr. James Streelman, Rick Trainor, and Ray Roberts. And OCC did it without their long-ball hitter, Bob “Little Arnold” Fullagar, who was routed to a different team this year. OCC also sponsored a hole for us and donated a great home theatre system for a raffle prize.

Second Place went to Team Double Eagle with a score of 64, edging Tears of the Moon in a tie breaker by having a better score on the high handicap hole. Team Double Eagle consisted of Nora Aplin, Dennis Aplin, Jerry Aplin, and Dave Barre.

Tears of the Moon, featuring our own Tom Cole, ended up in Third Place, also with a score of 64. Team Tears of the Moon consisted of Tom, Al Marzullo, and Barry Barbour.

Sadly, the annual longest day award went to Bill Ilten’s Next Foursome of George Pallo, Bob Grizzle, Jim Nichols and Bill.

Other contest winners included:

50/50 Cash Putting Contest $44.00 split between winners: - James Ruch and James Ricks
50/50 Cash Longest Drive $80.00 Winner - Brian Poissant
50/50 Cash Closest To The Pin $110.00 Winner - Dennis Aplin
Trophy Longest Drive Ladies - Jane Blanchard
Trophy Longest Drive Mens - Rick Trainor
Trophy Closest To The Pin Ladies - Nora Aplin
Trophy Closest To The Pin Mens - Ray Roberts

Golfers were treated to ice cold bottles of black cherry and creme soda, snacks, treats, and cigars out on the course throughout the day. Complimentary pictures will be sent to those golfers requesting them.

George Pallo, our esteemed colleague and current President from APICS-Orange County graced us with his presence courtesy of a free entry from his buddy, David Chance, our NAPM-OC Communications Chair and Event Photographer. Please check out David’s photography work during the tournament at www. northstar1.us.

Bill Zablan sank a 50 foot putt on one of the holes. Bob Fullagar hit a beautiful ball that sprayed out 20 feet of streaming confetti when it hit the ground (somebody switched balls on him).

Raffle prize winners included digital camera winner Bud Mitchener, Black & Decker multi-tool set winner Jim Ruch, Nordstrom $100 gift certificate Al Marzullo, Prime Dodger tickets won by ElRoy Codding, Jr., a $200 Home Theatre system won by Randy Wong, $100 Arbonne Skin Products won by Chuck Ayres, and a $100 Wells Fargo Gift Basket won by Matt Montenero. We had 46 raffle prizes awarded to our golfers totaling over $4000.00 in value.

Sponsors included Orange County Container, Microsemi Corporation, Transcom, ERC Company, Penco Precision, Arbonne, VE Associates, Perpetual Frontiers, Electronic Sourcebook, Johnson Machinery, G/M Business Interiors, and Mammoth Products.

For a complete listing of raffle prize winners, also our foursome roster and sponsors, see the Tournament Program which will be on our website soon.

Overall, the tournament was a successful and fun event. More funds were raised to support our C.P.M. exam reimbursement program (see our website for details) C.P.M. candidates, pass a test module and submit your documentation for reimbursement.

See you all next year at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino on Friday, September 16, 2005!
