“The
Joy of Volunteering”
Elaine Whittington, C.P.M., CPCM, A.P.P.
Past President, NAPM, Inc.
Our
dinner speaker will be covering the thing that makes any organization
truly successful, the volunteer. Elaine Whittington has been a
volunteer for NAPM almost every year since she joined in 1966.
She will share the secrets for finding time and the bonuses of
being on the “inside track” as well as the benefits of doing something
for the organization.
Most
organizations are run by a small elite group of people who seem
to get involved year after year. The reason is that once you become
involved, the rewards are so rich it is difficult to move aside
and let others do the job. The “Tom Sawyer” ploy here is really
true. “I don’t think I want to allow you to do this, it is too
much fun.” Come and hear how you can become a part of the decision
making in your organization.” It is exciting and rewarding—ask
your “ultimate volunteer”, Sara Arhlen, C.P.M.
Elaine
Whittington has been working in the purchasing field for over
forty years. She worked twenty-five years at Lockheed-Martin where
she worked on both government and commercial programs. Many of
her programs were used as models for other divisions of the firm,
as well as other suppliers.
She
received her degree from UCLA and taught “Fundamentals of Purchasing”
in their extension program. Elaine is a past president of the
National Association of Purchasing Management (National) as well
as The National Association of Purchasing Management-Los Angeles.
She was the recipient of the J. Shipman gold medal award from
the National Association of Purchasing Management at the International
Conference in New Orleans in May of 2000.
In
addition, Elaine has been honored by the East Los Angeles Community
Union, the YWCA and two of the honor societies at Cal Poly Pomona
for her achievements in the field of purchasing. She continues
to participate with NAPM-San FernandoValley on the board of directors.
