Spotlight
on Volunteers
By Stephen ‘Skip’ Kay,
C.P.M.
Communications Chair/Board Member
This month’s “Spotlight
on Volunteers” features JoAnne Mungari, C.P.M. our House Committee Chairperson.
JoAnne earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Cal State Fullerton in Marketing
Communications. In her pursuit of C.P.M. certification, she took and passed
C.P.M. Module exams in the months of May, July, August and she passed
the final Module on 9/13/2000. We hope to see her at the lectern receiving
her Certification at the October Dinner Meeting. Congratulations JoAnne!
Spotlight: What
company are you employed with, for how long and in what capacity?
JoAnne: I’ve been with Astech Manufacturing for 5 years. We manufacture
aeronautical exhaust systems for commercial jet aircraft such as Boeing
and Airbus. In my capacity as Buyer, I am responsible for Machined Parts,
Sheet Metal Fabrication and Tooling.
Spotlight: How
long have you been in Purchasing and why did you select Purchasing as
your profession?
JoAnne: Actually, this has been my only purchasing position. I was previously
in Sales and Marketing when the Director of Operations offered me the
Purchasing position. I accepted and have since decided to follow Purchasing
as my career path.
Spotlight: How
long have you been a volunteer and what committees have you served?
JoAnne: I’m a first time volunteer. I was asked if I’d be interested in
volunteering and I accepted the duties of House Chair. I also plan to
help Merle Roberts as facilitator in the C.P.M./A.P.P. Exam Preparation
Workshops where I’ll help with registration, sign-ins and lunch for the
attendees. It will also provide me with free “on-the-job-training”.
Spotlight: What
are your duties as House Chair?
JoAnne: I’m the liaison between NAPM and the hotel. I help select the
dinner menus. I provide the hotel with an accurate head-count for that
evening, making sure the meeting room is reserved and the equipment is
set up. I work with hotel management in arranging additional conference
rooms for New Member Orientation and the Supply Management Focus Group.
And, I’ll be involved in booking the site for our next June Forum.
Spotlight: Where
do you come up with the dinner menu ideas such as September’s “Grilled
Chicken in Lemon Caper Sauce over a bed of Linguine?”
JoAnne: Believe it or not, we were served that dish at my High School
reunion. Everyone raved about it. I worked with the hotel’s head chef
on the sauce and it all came together. The chef has a French Cuisine background
and we run ideas back and forth. I want the hotel to prepare a
meal for our members
that’s both different and elegant, something you don’t normally get at
home.
Spotlight: Who
is/was your mentor and how did they help guide you?
JoAnne: My mentor is Jill Alvarez. I attended some of the classes she
teaches at the Learning Tree. She encouraged me to pursue my C.P.M. Certification
and to get involved with the affiliate. She also recruited me as House
Chair.
Spotlight: Do
you have a favorite web site?
JoAnne: mammothmtn.com. It’s the ski report. I’ve been an avid skier for
15 years. 1997 was awesome. I skied nearly every weekend from Thanksgiving
‘97 to June ‘98, from Tahoe to the local mountains.
Spotlight: Do
you have a message for the Membership?
JoAnne: Get involved. Be a volunteer. Meet new people. The more you put
into it, the more you’ll get out of it!
