KOCE Pledge Night Revisited A good time for a good cause was had by all as some of your NAPM-Orange County purchasing managers volunteered for a fundraising pledge drive on behalf of KOCE-TV Public Television. The event was held on Monday, December 9th at KOCE-TV’s studio at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. A complimentary meal of chicken alfredo with mushrooms provided by the New Orleans Grill in Huntington Beach kicked off the event and then our troupe entered the studio to be trained on the computer terminals and telephones used to gather donor information. Since it was not an “on air” night, the evening started slowly, but soon the phones started ringing and our volunteers plodded through their first pledges and in short order were pledge bank experts. The program, D. Wayne Dyer, generated a good amount of calls, most of the donors going for “The Big Enchilada,” a complete package of Mr. Dyers tapes, books, and seminar materials, at the cost of $365.00 a piece! The father-son team of Ron and Johannes Sandoval started a friendly competition, with young Johannes establishing an early lead with a couple of “Big Enchilada” pledges, until the late going when dad “schooled” son with a record $10,000.00 pledge! Our wonderful Volunteer Coordinator Hostess, Nicole Lloyd of KOCE stated, “We’ve never had a donation that large on a pledge drive.” Nicole and her crew took good care of us, and all our volunteers got in on the activity and had a good time. All together, we helped KOCE raise over $20,000.00 for their cause. The NAPM-OC team consisted of Kevin Turner, Ron Sandoval, Julie Hutson, Steve Belgum, Beatrice Wiest, George Nagy, Myriam Roberts, Merle Roberts, Art Harwood, Art Bohlmann, Bill Zablan, Steve Park, Bill O’Connor and Johannes Sandoval. Thanks to all these great participants, especially those of you that got involved for the first time, and also to Merle Roberts, who acted as official event photographer (Richard Arhlen taught you well). Our organization got some exposure in the form of our name being shown on-screen during live programming, and we may have the opportunity to do it again in March. Please join us if we do. |
