Dear NAPM-OC Colleagues,

It is with great anticipation and enthusiasm that I look forward to serving you this upcoming fiscal year 2004-2005.

At the June dinner meeting some of you witnessed the annual changing of the guard on installation night. I think we are fortunate to have assembled a promising team of Directors and Committee Chairs for this year and they too are looking forward to serving and meeting your needs.

We wish to acknowledge the great job done by President Chrys Varnes, C.P.M. and her team this past year. Almost every goal set was met and the contributions of all volunteers were both noticeable and appreciated. Thank you Chrys for your leadership and a terrific job in 2003-2004.

Also at our June meeting, it was great to see Laura DeLance, C.P.M., A.P.P. receive the Sara J. Arhlen award as the committee chairperson of the year. Laura is the one responsible for all those fun icebreaker activities each month at the dinner meetings. And Jo Ann Steele, C.P.M. was presented the Herb Cannon award as the NAPM-OC member of the year. Those of us familiar with Jo Ann and her efforts and enthusiasm were gratified to see her acknowledged.

For this coming year, we have a large and busy agenda. Some of us recently attended the ISM leadership training in Las Vegas, July 9th and 10th (pictures). This training is to familiarize new and incumbent officers, board and committee member with their roles and how to do them better. We'll have an extended board meeting in August and will have a heavy emphasis on board and committee member training and orientation so that we may serve you with distinction.

We'd also like to continue to optimize our educational offerings, our dinner meeting activities and speakers, and our customer service to you. We'll strive to succeed with our annual activities such as the June Forum and NAPM joint Golf Scholarship Tournament, the proceeds of which are used to fund reimbursement for passing C.P.M. modules. We're fortunate to have one of the best, if not the best, Certification chairs in the country, Merle Roberts, C.P.M. , and he will continue to help you become certified.

Our website will remain one of the best and we will strive to improve upon it as well.

While we're at it, why don't we punch through and be named the Affiliate of the Year in 2003-2004, advancing our highly respectable Affiliate Excellence Award, which we've achieved two years running?

And most importantly, what would you like to accomplish this year, and how can we help you do it? Whether you want to move from Buyer to Sr. Buyer, Sr. Buyer to Purchasing Manager, Purchasing Manager to Supply Chain Director, this year is the time to make your move. Take that workshop, that class, get your C.P.M. certification. Tell us what you need and let us help. The time to step up is now, this year.

Have a great year in 2004-2005. Let's work for it together. And be sure to tell us about your achievements when you get there.

Finally, a sad note to pass on - This past June 10th, we laid to rest one of our own, Christine Bozley, C.P.M.. Christine was an expert MRO buyer for many years and she served the Association in many capacities including Director and Officer. We are saddened by her loss and give our best wishes to her family.
