August's Interview Lola Awwad Membership Committee Chair

Spotlight: Lola, tell us a little about yourself.

Lola: I was raised in Los Alamitos, CA. I went to Cal State Long Beach and now I work at MSC.Software. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling and of course shopping. I know how to get a good laugh and make great drinks. Recently, I got engaged to my boyfriend of two years, Issa. Our wonderful story begins November 2000. I'm planning a wedding next year, no date yet.

Spotlight: How long have you been in Purchasing?

Lola: I've been in Purchasing for two (2) years. Before that I worked at Home Base as an accountant for three (3) years. I enjoy Purchasing a lot and planning to stay in the Purchasing field.

Spotlight: How long have you been a member of NAPM-OC?

Lola: I've been a member of NAPM-OC for two (2) years. I attend most dinner meetings and I enjoy listening to the speakers very much. Of course, some topics interest me more than others.

Spotlight: What committees have you served NAPM-OC as a Volunteer?

Lola: I'm the chair for the Membership Committee of NAPM-OC. I was also involved in this year's "June Forum" at Coastline Community College. I like to volunteer and encourage other members to volunteer. It's a lot of fun.

Spotlight: What have you learned or gained from being part of a committee?

Lola: I consider myself new to Purchasing and I have a lot to learn. My boss, Brian Woo, encourages me a lot and I have gained and learned skills from him. The experience for the last two (2) years was very good and I learned a lot of information that I consider very valuable to me.

Spotlight: Who is/was your mentor(s) and how did they help guide you?

Lola: My mentor is my mother. My mother is a very great person and as a mother, she's very smart and always encourages me to succeed and support me.

Spotlight: Do you have a favorite web-site?

Lola: My favorite website is Yahoo.
