NAPM-OC is always grateful to those members who so unselfishly dedicate their personal time in support of the affiliate but we often overlook (or never hear about) the promotions and awards recognizing members who perform well at the companies who employ their skills, knowledge and professionalism. This column is dedicated to the many members within NAPM-OC who are recognized by the companies for whom they work. This month we would like to identify Gloria Torres, Senior Buyer who was recognized as EMPLOYEE of the MONTH at Phillips Industries. www.phillipsind.com We asked Gloria to describe the accomplishments which earned her "Employee of the Month" and also, to tell us a little about herself. "I began working at Phillips Industries in September of 2001. Seven months later, the Purchasing Manager, my immediate boss, left the company. During this time, I reported directly to the GM, Rob Phillips. I was awarded Employee of the Month in April of 2002, for a "great attitude, working well with all the other departments, a fantastic team player, and being competent in my position as Senior Buyer at Phillips Industries". While making the announcement for Employee of the Month, it was also said that my smile lit up a room when I entered. (I was actually eating my lunch during the presentation, and thought they were talking about one of my leads - it was a total surprise to find out they were describing me!). Being involved with the NAPM has helped me achieve this award. I joined NAPM in 1999 and began to take courses for my Purchasing Certificate in 2000. I have only one class to go before I receive the certificate. Judy Smith & Jill Alvarez persuaded me to get involved as Marketing Chair and others have encouraged me to go forward. My current job is a direct result of the networking and support I have gained through my membership with NAPM. My resume was passed along to someone else in the NAPM organization, and eventually made its way to my current Employer. CPM classes are next after I finish a few classes toward my degree." CONGRATULATIONS go out to Gloria for a job well done. If
you or someone in your organization has been recognized, awarded and/or
promoted let us know and we'll send out the message. The Purchasing Profession
and those who are in it deserve recognition they have earned. |
