This plan was developed at the Strategic Planning Meeting held on August 14, 2003. The following Board members, committee chairs and members were in attendance:

The Strategic Planning Meeting started with a SWOT analysis followed by setting goals and objectives for the year. Tasks were assigned to Board members and committees.

Mission Statement:

NAPM-Orange County will provide purchasing professionals with exceptional educational offerings, information, certification, and networking opportunities for professional growth. NAPM-Orange County will also provide leadership in the business community to increase awareness of the concepts of supply chain management for the 21st century and understanding of the benefits of membership and support of ISM™

Vision and Values:

NAPM-OC strives to exceed member's expectations by providing quality educational and networking events. The Board and its members are committed to showing respect to each other and all members and providing everyone with a safe opportunity to practice their leadership and management skills. In addition NAPM-OC is dedicated to promoting the purchasing profession to both the corporate and public sector agencies.

Goals and Objectives:

  1. To find out what member's wanted the most from the affiliate and tailor activities to meet those needs.
  2. To stimulate member's interest in becoming an affiliate volunteer.
  3. To provide quality educational opportunities at an affordable cost.
  4. To retain current members and attract new ones to the affiliate by providing an energizing environment that makes everyone feel welcome and part of the group. Ensure that all prospective and current members know the full value of ISM and NAPM-OC membership.
  5. To participate in community events to promote the purchasing profession.
  6. To prepare and follow a budget that is aligned with organizational goals.

Action Steps and Targets:

  1. Conduct monthly dinner survey to find out more about what members want. Use this survey to tailor programs. Let members know you are reading the surveys by responding back to them using the monthly newsletter as a tool (10 surveys)
  2. Conduct a web survey of members. Form a task force to artfully craft the survey and provide incentives for members to respond. Use this survey to tailor programs. (1 survey)
  3. Provide greeters and mentors for new members. Introduce members at monthly meetings keeping the introduction within the comfort zone of the individuals. (10 meetings)
  4. Recruit 8 new members per month
  5. Implement a new system for badges so that all members have a badge.
  6. Feature a committee at each meeting, tell the members about the mission/goals of the committee and discuss opportunities for volunteerism.
