The President's Message
Dear NAPM-OC members and visitors,
NAPM-Orange County, an affiliate of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), has started a new year in June and I am honored to be serving as NAPM-OC’s 2011-2012 President. I can only hope that I will serve the affiliate as well as some of the Past-Presidents have.
This coming year will be a year of changes. We’re going to mix things up.
We will be implementing some new ideas such as:
· “Get to Know Your Fellow Members” which we started at the May dinner meeting. Each month one of you may be picked to interview and introduce someone at the dinner meeting that you don’t know. This is a great ice break and an excellent way for not only the interviewee to get to know a member but also the rest of the membership. It will not be limited to members; guests will also be included.
· Another change, which we are targeting for this year, is the name change from NAPM-OC to ISM-OC. All of the required documents have been submitted to the State of California and we are waiting for their final approval. Special thanks to Gloria Gorgol for her tireless effort in achieving this milestone.
· We’ll be adding a “What’s New” slide to the dinner meeting presentation which will have different information each month such as an interesting detail about our website or a new job opening, etc. If you have a suggestion, please talk to any Board Member or Committee Chair.
· We will be having a five-minute talk by a Committee Chair to tell you what that committee does. Hopefully this will get you interested in joining a committee and more involved in the affiliate. If we want the affiliate to continue to be successful we need everyone’s help. Filling out the evaluations is one way of helping but we still need volunteers for the committees.
· We’re also looking for ideas for fundraisers. Our dues alone do not sustain the affiliate. Some past fundraisers have been the Angels baseball games – unfortunately the last two years that we did it we were not able to sell enough to tickets except to breakeven. We’ve done the golf tournament and have made some money but it takes a lot up front effort requiring a lot of volunteers. In addition we’ve done several Supplier Expos; some have been more successful than others.
These are just some of the changes that you can expect in the coming year. I’m sure there will be more which should make this coming year very exciting. Thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to serve as President.
